Excursing the Mekong River departing from Luang Prabang via a wooden boat. Two days travelling to explore the beautiful riverside villages on the route leading to Thailand as well as the exotic caves surrounding.
From Luang Prabang, embark the Luang Say Cruise at 07:00 (note: please be at the dock no later than 06:45) to begin this two-day tour.
Depart to Pak Ou Caves, the place is also known as Tam Ting Caves with 2 hours upstream from Luang Prabang. These caves are carved out of natural limestone cliffs and also known as a sacred place for local pilgrimages. The caves themselves contain a lot of gold lacquered Buddha statues with the sizes ranging from a tiny piece to the size of a human.
Heading to Pakbeng after the first stop at Pak Ou, passing by the village of Ban Baw, disembark to experience the traditional method of making rice alcohol. Then, return to the cruise for continuing the tour of the day on the beautiful Mekong River whilst enjoying a delightful buffet lunch on board.
Depending on the current stage of the river, the boat may be able to reach Pakbeng late in the afternoon to be in time for catching a sunset over the river. Pakbeng is a small but lively and dynamic town located in the middle of the way from Houay Xay to Luang Prabang, with wooden-built houses lined along the slopes on the hillside. Guests will have dinner and spend the night in Pakbeng.
Breakfast to be served at the hotel before continuing the cruising trip upstream the river.
OPTIONAL: Opportunity to visit the local morning market for early risers; experience the buying and exchanging goods activities amongst the hill tribes and nearby villagers.
Leave at 07:30, en route to visit a small village and explore the authentically exotic life of hill tribe settlements. Enjoy lunch while cruising up onto the Mekong River.
Arrive in Houay Xay around 17:00. It is possible to proceed to Chiang Rai on the same day for those interested; the border transfer is already included in this LuangSay Cruise package. Crossing border from Lao to Chiang Khong is guests’arrangement.
